About Starcraft

I’d like to talk about a game called Starcraft which is my favorite computer game. This game was created by a venture company called Blizzard in 1998 in U.S.A. About the game, it is a strategy simulation game in which three tribes such as Terran of earth, Juggs of alien, and Protose of alien are battling on the universe. Among the three tribes I like Protose the most because of its awesome appearance in spite of the fact that they are aliens. Unlike other games, Startcraft can be played by friends or people you don’t know through the platform called ‘Battlenet’. Battlenet allows up to 8 people to play in the same game as a single player or as a team.
Because of its popularity, Startcraft contributed to the drastic increase of the number of PC rooms in Korea, from 500 to 15,000. Not only it caused the creation of new jobs like a pro-gamer, but also it exported its characters to the use of advertisements. Moreover, as a result of the game’s popularity, there appeared game institutions and game majors.
Since the first release of the Starcraft, it has hit the record sale of 6 million copies over the world including 2 million in Korea.

Defiler

Defiler is a kernel of Zerg's strategy. This unit doesn't have attack skill. It is a magic unit. The Defiler can unleash abilities like Plague and Dark Swarm. In addition, the Defiler can also be evolved to include the ability to Consume other Zerg units from the same brood. If you use Consume, Defiler's energy is partially recharged, allowing it to continue to use its other abilities without having to waste the time. However, there are some directions to using Defilers. Defiler has very low vitality, so it can be your enemy's first target. And as I told you before it doesn't have attack skill. You should take some support units to protect Defiler. If the occasion ever arises where the Defiler is alone, it should use the Burrow ability to hide and recharge its energy safely.

Ultralisk

Ultralisk is ths strongest unit in Starcraft. The enormous Ultralisk is the crown of Zerg evolution. If you produce many Ultralisks, your enemy's units aren't able to live. With their ability to withstand immense firepower, the Ultralisks are best used as damage absorbers. Keep the Ultralisks in the front line whenever possible so that they can deal their damage while facing the brunt of the enemy's attack.
But this glamorous unit has a few week points. First, Ultralisk requires a expensive price to produce it. So if you want to make them in a large group, you should secure ample minerals and gases. Next one is Ultralisk hasn't air attack ability. If you don't want to lose your Ultralisk from enemy's air units, prepare some support units. And the last one is their slow movement. But you can upgrade Ultralisk's speed. This upgrade is very useful, so you must do that if you want to use Ultralisks.

Infested Terran

This is a Infested Terran's picture. Queens have an ability to infest Terran's Command Centers, and then the Zerg can control them. The Zerg users can produce Infested Terran in the Infested Command Center. The Infested Terran has 500 points of explosive splash damage to any unit or structure. This is same with Terran's nuclear attack damage. But this is kamikaze attack such as Scourges. Although it is kamikaze attack, there has not been changed that the Infested Terran is useful.
However, it has week points. Infested Terrans don't have air attack skills and therefore it require protection during their attack runs. The Infested Terrans need to explode right next to the target makes one particularly vulnerable to ranged attacks and if an enemy ranged attack group is large enough, Infested Terrans will have a very difficult time doing any harm.

Scourge

Like Zerglings, Scourge spawn in pairs from a single Larva and can be produced in large numbers in a very short period of time. The Scourges serve as kamikaze-attack flying units. Scourge has the strongest damage of all the flying units in the Starcraft. They are useful when they against lone or small groups of enemy air units, but they lose their usefulness against larger groups of units. This is because they has low vitality. This week point can be made up when you use Scourge with Mutalisk. Mutalisk can make enough time to achieve Scourge's attack. One thing to keep in mind when using Scourge is knowing how many are needed to destroy any given target. I'll give you that information.

Mutalisk

This is Mutalisk's picutre. It can fly and also it can attack both of ground and sky. However its attack has the special property of hitting several targets within close proximity of the inital strike and against packed groups of enemy units, Mutalisks can quickly tear them apart. The inital hit does 9 base points of normal damage, the 2nd hit strikes the enemy nearest to the first target and does about 1/3 damage. And the 3rd hit strikes the enemy nearest to the 2nd target while doing about 1/9 damage. There are many use of Mutalisk. But, probably the best use of the Mutalisk is in the hit-and-run tactics. Because it can fly very fast. I usually use Mutalisk when I play Starcraft. Almost units become strong if they're united. Especially, Mutalisk become more stronger then any other units. So the key of using Mutalisk is that do not let it to be destroyed.

Friends

This is the story about 2 friends. Chom was waiting his friend Jack. They had a plan to go to the concert. But Jack is late for promiss, so they got a taxi. Fortunately, they arrvied on time. And they decided to buy some pop-corn and coke. After that they saw their concert, and when the concert finished Jack offerd his heartfelt thanks for Chom's favor. Because the tickets were belongs to Chom.

Lurker

Lurker is an expensive unit. But it has enough worth. They can hide under the ground. If enemies don't have detectors, they can't see your Lurkers. Once Lurkers hide under the ground, it is very difficult to destory them. This is because Lurker's spines suffer damage through the ground in a straight line from the Lurker to its target. The only weakness of the Lurker is that it is virtually defenseless while above ground. So when you use this unit, you must be careful on the ground.

The Strategy

Now let me introduce two strategies to you. The first one is called a "4 Drone Rush". Use the first 4 drones for extracting minerals. As soon as you have 200 minerals, make a Spawning Pool.

Then make one more drone. As soon as the Spawning Pool is made, make 6 zerglings and defeat the opponent. The problem of this strategy is that it's all-in type; if you fail, you may suffer a big damage.

The second is called "3 Hatchery" Strategy. Make three hatcheries after getting some minerals with your drones. Then build a Spawning Pool and a Hydradisk den. Then you can get many units from those 3 hatcheries, and can defeat your opponent easily. But you may have not be able to defend at the outset due to lack of attack units.

Hydralisk

This is a Hydralisk. Most of the Zerg players have practiced using this unit. With the ability to attack both ground and air targets, it has been loved. And also with their short build times and low cost, they can be produced in large numbers to overwhelm the enemy. This is the reason why the Zerg players are practiced to use them. But there are some qualifications. One of them is Hatchery's number. One thing to remember when producing Hydralisks is that you can never have enough at once. If you want to make the group of large numbers of Hydralisk, you should make more Hatcheries. But Hydralisks are well worth enough.

Zergling

This is a Zergling's picture. It is the cheepest and fastest unit the Zerg have. And also, it is the first attack unit of the Zerg. With the ability to spawn in pairs, it can be produced in large numbers in a very short period of time. Because of these reasons, most Zerg players can't play without Zerglings. If you want to be a good Zerg player, you should learn when you use Zerglings. You can use them to scout with its fast foot. And you can use them to attack enemy with its sharp claws. When you are familiar with Zerglings, you can feel your play is getting better.
